World Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20 annually. The day aims to promote international togetherness and awareness among children as well as to improve their welfare. November 20 marks the anniversary of the UN General Assembly adopted a Declaration and Convention on children’s rights. This year, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) wants to remind world leaders to “fulfil the promise of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child”.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has joined the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other dignitaries in the inauguration of FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Dhankhar is in Doha for a two-day visit to represent India at the inauguration of FIFA’s showpiece event. Besides attending the inaugural ceremony of the Football World Cup, the Vice President will also interact with members of the Indian community during the visit. The 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor will host the opening ceremony on 20 November 2022 just before the first match between host Qatar and Ecuador.

India has moved up by six slots to improve its position and rank 61st as per the Network Readiness Index 2022 (NRI 2022) report prepared by a US-based Portulans Institute, an independent non-profit research and educational institute. In a statement issued by the Telecom Ministry, it was stated that India’s overall score has improved to 51.19 in 2022 from 49.74 in 2021. The NRI 2022 report ranks a total of 131 economies that together account for about 95 per cent of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Retired IAS Arun Goel appointed as Election Commissioner of India.
President Droupadi Murmu has appointed retired IAS Arun Goel as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with effect from the date he assumes the office. A Punjab cadre officer of the 1985 batch, Goel will join Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey in the poll panel. Till recently, Mr Goel was the heavy industries secretary and has also served in the Union Culture ministry. He was to retire on December 31, 2022, but his voluntary retirement came into effect on November 18.

Veteran Punjabi actress Daljeet Kaur Khangura passes away.
Daljeet Kaur, a veteran actor well-known for her lead roles in several superhit Punjabi movies, has passed away in Punjab’s Ludhiana district. She was 69 years old. Daljeet was one of Pollywood’s best-known actors. Kaur had appeared in several successful films, including MamlaGarbar Hai, Putt Jattan De, Patola, Ki Banu Duniya Da, and Saida Jogan.
She graduated from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and began her film career in 1976 with flim ‘Daaz.’ Daljeet Kaur, who was a popular face in the Punjabi film world, has acted in more than 10 Hindi and 70 Punjabi films. She took a sabbatical from acting after the unfortunate death of her husband, Harminder Singh Deol, in a car accident.

India Launches Official Website And Theme of SCO 2023.
India has launched the official website of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as it will host the next SCO summit as a chairman of organisation in 2023. The website highlights the events that will be undertaken under the chairmanship of India next year.
The theme of the event is “For a SECURE SCO”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had floated the concept of SECURE at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China in 2018. Explaining the SECURE concept, the Prime Minister said ‘S’ for security for citizens, ‘E’ for economic development, ‘C’ for connectivity in the region, ‘U’ for unity, ‘R’ for respect of sovereignty and integrity, and ‘E for environment protection.

At the opening ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi was honoured with the Indian Film Personality of the Year 2022 award. Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Anurag Thakur announced that the Indian Film Personality of the Year award will be conferred upon megastar Chiranjeevi. In a career spanning nearly four decades, Chiranjeevi has acted in more than 150 films, primarily in the Telugu film industry.
